Leslie
S. Phillips was born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 9, 1966.
She grew up in Richmond, Virginia, graduating Monacan High
School in Chesterfield County.
She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Randolph-Macon
College, Ashland, Virginia, in 1988.
She was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Fraternity
and Kappa Alpha Theta. She
received her Juris Doctor from T. C. Williams School of Law,
University of Richmond, in 1991.
While there, she was a member of Order of Barrister, Moot
Court Board and National Moot Team.
Since
coming to Lynchburg immediately after law school, Ms. Phillips’
practice has focused on all areas of family law including custody,
support and divorce related matters.
She has been active in the Family Law Section of the
Lynchburg Bar Association, serving on that Executive Committee since
1995 and holding the office of President in 1997 and Secretary from
1995-1997 and 1998-2002. She served on the Board of Governors, Family Law Section, Child
Custody Education Committee from 1994-1998.
The product of that committee work was the “Spare the
Child” video published by the Virginia State Bar and used in many
jurisdictions for litigant education.
She
is the chair of the Lynchburg Juvenile & Domestic Relations
District Court Guiding Coalition; board member of CASA of Central
Virginia, Inc.; board member of Jubilee Family Development Center;
board member of Crisis Line of Central Virginia; and board member of
The Awareness Garden Foundation, Inc.
She volunteers in the athletic department for Jubilee which
serves underprivileged children in Lynchburg.
Ms.
Phillips has been a Virginia Supreme Court certified mediator since
1994. Her certification now covers
Circuit Court – Family, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations
District Court matters. She
is also a certified mentor for mediators seeking Virginia Supreme Court
certification. She is a
certified trainer for various prerequisite mediation courses
including ethics, domestic violence and general and Circuit Court
family training.
Ms. Phillips' practice
also includes representing children
as Guardian ad litem in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations
District court and Circuit Court. She has served as lecturer on
issues involving Guardians ad litem for Virginia CLE. She has
taught paralegal classes at Central Virginia community college and
National Academy of Paralegal Studies.
